Questions: 1. What made you want to be a local artist - Anyone inspire you to pursue this dream?
A: I've always had a love for Hip Hop as a little kid. Stemming back to the mid-80's. I've always been a student of the elements. I was trying to copy what the breakdancers was doing. I also took note to the fashion. The stuff I seen on TV in rap videos & what was going on in the streets. My parents couldn't afford of those things back then so made do with what we had. Saved up lunch money & sold candy to get fresh.
But one of all time favorite songs is "93 Til Infinity" by Souls Of Mischief (Hieroglyphics) & E-40 who gave the world ridiculous game on wax. They guys inspired me to start rhyming. Plus they're from the Bay Area which made it seem like this is all possible. Also, Nas had a big influence on my upbringing. His rhyme pattern & persona. Let me share a quick story. When I was 12, I went to a house party in the Excelsior via 1994. These twins walked up in there. They breakdance battled all the other breakers & destroyed like a dozen people. Then they got on the mic & battle rapped against all the other rappers in the function & slayed all of them. These two are today known as B-Boy pioneers Profo & Rob Nasty. World reknowned b-boys & hip hop masters. Much respect to the Kuyas. They inspired me to rep for the pinoys. 2. How did you come across the stage name "Rymeezee"?
A: I had mulitple stage names coming up as an artist. Super cheesy ones too. I'm going to drop all my Aliases. don't laugh.
1. Crooked Moe (1995-1997)
2. 8th Wonder (1997-1999)
3. The Pessimyst (1999-2001)
4. Rymo (2002-2008)
5. Rymeezee (2008-Present)
Rymeezee is spin-off of my nick name Rymo. My government name is Raimol. Don't tell nobody. Rymeezee just sounded a little more subtle. In my neighborhood, we all added the "eezee" when we seen each other. Sup w/ Jereezee? Feel me or nah? haha Might go back to Rymo. Who knows.
3. What do you expect your audience or current fans to get from listening to your music? A: I always stress to my audience that you got to work hard & get yours. Nobody is going to give grown people anything for free out here. Get in where you fit in. I want the listeners to know that I'm just like them. I get up & go to work too. I have a family to look after & I'm responsible for more people other than myself. I appreciate all the support whether its sharing my music or purchasing HBC apparel. I do personally thank everyone (I'll call, text, comment or slide in the DM). I really do that. No hollywood over here. In addition, I want to remind them that this is art & it changes as time goes by. Have an open mind. 4. Where do you see yourself in five years from now, still performing? A: Right now, I work in the SF School District as a Daytime & After School Coordinator. I spend my days mentoring, setting enrichment activities for the youth, case managing, hoop tournaments & hold recording sessions (creative writing x digital production.
Five years from now, I would like to have started my very own program for high-risk youth. A building dedicated to young aspiring artists that have love for recording, production, & media. Possibly starting & running a label for this soul purpose.
As far as performances goes, it depends. If its about some doe, then fasho. If it will uplift my community & the youth I deal with, then fasho I'll rock out with no hesitation.
I would like to see my clothing line (HeirBourne Collection) grow. Hopefully a storefront(s) or something of that nature. And possibly venturing into other businesses. 5. Do you have any upcoming shows coming up? A: I have a few shows in the works and events. i plan on adding more Bourne BAD functions to compliment my latest album release. Please stay tuned for dates & locations. To keep it real, I've turned down a lot of shows. For one, I can't make all of the events because of how busy I am with my family at home. Another thing is it's never about any bread. A lot of promoters in the Bay Area want you to do free events for exposure. But the moment a out of town artist comes around, they roll out the red carpet & kiss major ass. I've been performing since the late 90's at the biggest venues locally & internationally. I've rocked w/ the biggest names in the game. For me to step out the house, I have to make it count somehow someway. 6. Do you remember how we began networking on Instagram? A: I have a mutual friend who is more like a brother to me (Struk) who is close to your father. My 1st rap group I joined was w/ Kuya Struk via 1995. We were called S.I.K. (strictly in kontrol). I think he posted one of my works on IG and you caught on to it. And then you might have seen a post from Da Maddhouze & we started following each other. 7. I have been promoting and following you for sometime now, but for those not following what are they missing out on? A: I appreciate that. It's big for indie artists such as myself. Anything helps. The blogs, word of mouth, the shares, the retweets, etc. In all honesty, I don't ever want to force my music on people. I only hope that if they haven't heard of me, they'd curious enough to want to check it out. I feel that what people are missing out on is real city rhymes & grind. I'm a young OG now. I represent the voice of all the starving inner city youth & give it in its rawest form. I'm not a super political type MC, nor am I a backpack artist. I'm right there in that middle ground holding it down. I believe one thing that sets me apart from other artists is im filipino & my approach to music way different. You wouldn't expect to hear the things that come out of my mouth. Especially if you don't know me. 8. I ask all of the local artists I interview, but if I were to look at your iPhone's music playlist or computer's library - What kind of genres or songs would I find? A: Lots of 90's hip hop. East Coast to west coast. Lots of golden era hip hop music. Also a lot of Bay Area rap. But I do have a thing for old school R & B Soul which is my absolute favorite genre.
9. Where can new followers find your music and follow you on your social media sites? A: I just launched my own website. www.Rymeezee.com which is connected to all my social media handles. YouTube: HeirBourne Collective List of works: www.itsmyurls.com/Rymeezee Instagram: @Rymeezee x @BourneBad_Rymeezee Twitter: @Rymeezee x @backhand_ent Clothing Line x Apparel: www.Heir-Bourne.com www.heirbournecollection.bigcartel.com
