Questions:
1. What made you guys want to be a band - Anyone inspire you guys to pursue this dream?
Chris: The band started out as a conceptual project that helped me cope with a lot of my personal struggles. Things that I carried with me from when I was younger to problems I still face today. Losing people you care about, disjointed families and such. Aside from that we are always inspired by people and other music. Growing up dreaming of maybe sharing stages with other musicians we admire.
2. How did you guys come across the group name - "Waking Things"?
Chris: As I said, the band started as a conceptual project. A fiction that mirrors the music. In the story there's a young man who continuously visits his parents at an asylum for the criminally insane. The internal struggle he has is not only surface level but it ends up waking something inside him.
3. What do you guys expect your audience or current fans to get from listening to your music?
Chris: Separate of concept there's also us hoping that the music we write and perform will hopefully make the audience feel something unsettling and real and raw. Not just "I'm here to dance". We want it to maybe change you a bit.
4. Where do you guys see yourself in five years from now, still performing?
Chris: Our goal is to write music that we love. Sometimes trends can be excused as a need to adapt. And sometimes that can also be a lot of fun. So in five years were hoping to have grown as individuals that our music will reflect that, and not because we felt like our hands were forced by what's trending now.
5. Do you guys have any upcoming shows?
Chris: We're in the beginning stages of planning a West Coast tour, but our immediate calendar is all Seattle. February 27th at the Rendezvous and March 13th at El Corazon are the next two shows.
6. Do you guys have any big projects or videos coming out this year, that you guys can't wait to share with the world?
Chris: Yes! We started writing what will be our new record at the end of 2015 so now we just started recording. We're excited to continue the story, but more importantly, hopefully reach some new fans with a more expansive song library.
7. I just discovered you guys but for those who aren't what are they missing out on?
Chris: We strive to write poetic and cryptic lyrics so that's nice to set us apart a little, but if I'm being honest, it's the most fulfilling playing live. We the sort of band to really leave it all on stage, so to speak. Like a tornado of movements and energy.
8. I ask all of the local artists I interview, but if I were to look at one of your band mates iPhone's music playlist or computer's library - What kind of genres or songs would I find?
Chris: Matt probably has the most diverse library out of everyone. I know he's a big Tech N9ne fan, but he also loves Ben Folds.
9. Where can new followers find your music and follow you guys on your social media sites?
Chris: We have our site wakingthings.com. And of course Facebook, Instagram, YouTube. All the main ones.
