Questions:
1. What made you want to be a local artist - Anyone inspire you to pursue this dream?
A: I've wanted to contribute to society and give back. My older brother introduced hip hop to me when I was 12 years old. Music runs in my family. My father owns a record label called TT.Hanco Records, Herbie Hancock is my father's cousin ,so somewhere down the pipeline, music was bound to come natural to me. I don't mean to name drop. However, that is a important factor in my family tree. My younger sister is a producer and played 3 instruments as well. I don't consider myself a local artist. I am a independent artist. I own F.Y.D. Entertainment LLC, & I'm the first artist on the label. So
2. How did you come across the stage name "Soncierthehero?
A: Well, I created Soncier from the word Sincere. I changed the spelling and gave it a meaning. Son=Son of the universe, and cier free spirit. A free spirit, son of the universe. I started calling myself the Hero of Hip Hop in 2008. If you dig into my archive .you'll hear me chant that on a lot of my songs from 2007-now. I've always delivered quality music with substance. Therefore, the hero suits my purpose.
3. What do you expect your audience or current fans to get from listening to your music?
A: I expect my audience to absorb my concepts and utilize the perspective I deliver in their daily lives. I have a motto called " Fuck Negative Shit, which I created on my 2013 release D.A.R.E. As you can see I'm big on using acronyms. It's also a movement that I plan to promote and get people involved. The hashtag is #fucknegativeshit. My angle is to deliver a positive message with negative appeal. I'll become the urban positive rapper who screams" fuck negative shit". The middle finger is my mascot. Check out the D.A.R.E project and you'll see what direction I'm going into.
4. I enjoy listening to "K.I.D.S", what's the story behind that song?
A: The story behind that song is based off the fathers that I know in real life. Everyone in the video are friends of mines and are actively raising their kids. I wanted to shed light on the real men who are stepping up and its quite a few young and older. In the end I promoted unity among the family to instill the structure. The machine (which is what I like to classify as the beast) is doing its best to destroy the urban family structure, Our men have low self esteems and our women are forced to believe that they don't need a father to help raise their children. This is a issue in minority & middle class families as well. The perception that is overshadowing our youth is false. There are plenty of strong, smart and proud fathers taking care of their women and children.
5. Do you have any upcoming shows coming up?
A: Yes, I have a upcoming show at Cafe Asia in Northwest D.C.
6. Do you have any projects or videos currently out? And are you working on new music to share with the world?
A: I am currently working on D.A.R.E. pt 2 Fuck Negative Shit, a sequel to the first mixtape. D.A.R.E PT 2 will be more edgier with a mainstream appeal. The K.I.D.S video is out on Youtube now, so comment and share with friends to help get the word out there. I plan to shoot another version of K.I.D.S after the song goes viral. I believe it deserves to be a mini movie . The version that I have out now is just to give people a visual. I can do so much more when I revisit the concept.
7. I just recently began promoting you and following you, but for those not following what are they missing out on?
A: They are missing out on getting to know a real down to earth person. I am super motivated as well, so if they follow me they'll most likely get inspired by watching my journey and the motivational quotes I post. I socialize with my followers, like pictures and I don't always talk about my music. I'm not the kind of artist who brags in a song about how much money I have, or I'll have sex with your girl and than turn around and ask you to buy my album. Like WTF. A lot artist have shitty attitudes and expect fans to support buy their music.
8. I ask all of the local artists I interview, but if I were to look at your iPhone's music playlist or computer's library - What kind of genres or songs would I find?
A: If you were to look at my IPhone Library or playlist you would find songs from artist like Musiq Soulchild, Kem, Tupac, Action Bronson, Aloe Blacc, Amel Larrieux, Avant, Barry White, Big Daddy Kane, Big Krit, Curren$y, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Joey BadA$$, Logic,Duke Dumont,& Emeli Sande, . I mean, the list of versatility goes on and on.
